Covenant Keepers: Un sistema de apoyo a las familias latinas

Covenant Keepers Charter School fue fundada en 2008 por la Dr. Valerie Tatum, en el corazón del suroeste de Little Rock. La escuela fue establecida para servir a las familias que quieren un ambiente académico excelente para sus hijos. Recientemente, en la escuela secundaria se ha visto una afluencia de estudiantes latinos, y estas familias están satisfechas con el Covenant Keepers y el apoyo que ofrecen a sus hijos.

El estudiante de séptimo grado Nelson Rodríguez se matriculó en 2013 con pocos conocimientos de inglés, pero ha mejorado mucho y ahora puede hablar en inglés con sus maestros y compañeros de clase. "Me gusta Covenant Keepers porque los maestros me han ayudado a aprender Inglés y a mejorar en matemáticas", dice Rodríguez.

"Cuando yo estaba en El Salvador, yo no sabía cómo dividir o multiplicar, y ahora sé porque mis maestros me ayudaron."

Varias familias envían a varios niños a asistir a la escuela Covenant Keepers. Guadalupe Napoles eligió CK por su hijo mayor, Jonathan Pérez, en 2011, e inscribió a su hijo Juan y su hija Citlalyk después de ver resultados positivos.

"Elegí Covenant Keepers para mis hijos, ya que es una muy buena escuela." A Napoles le gusta que los profesores se preocupen por sus estudiantes y quieren que tengan éxito. "Los profesores tienen altas expectativas y quieren que los estudiantes tengan altas expectativas para sí mismos." Cuando se le preguntó acerca de su hija Citlalyk, estudiante de sexto grado, Napoles dijo que la quería en un entorno donde pudiera sobresalir.

"Citlalyk no siempre mostró interés en la escuela, pero ahora ella está motivada y le gusta mucho CK." Su hijo Jonathan se graduó de Covenant Keepers en 2014 y ahora asiste a eStem Public Charter School en el centro de Little Rock.

"CK me tiene acostumbrado a tener bastante trabajo a la vez. Mis profesores de inglés me ayudan a aprender a escribir. "Jonathan dice que CK le mostro un adelanto de lo que la escuela secundaria sería.

Nohemy Castillo es otra de los padres satisfechos, como su hijo Michael Solorin, estudiante de octavo grado, ha asistido a CK desde el 2012 "En los últimos años, Michael ha aprendido mucho en CK." Ella también está satisfecha con la comunicación de su profesor.

"Los profesores me dicen lo que está pasando; si lo está haciendo bien o si se le está dificultando algo, me dejan saber. Covenant Keepers: A Support System for Latino Families

Covenant Keepers Charter School was founded in 2008 by Dr. Valerie Tatum, in the heart of southwest Little Rock. The school was established to serve families who want an excellent academic environment for their child. Recently, the middle school has seen an influx of Latino students, and these families are satisfied with Covenant Keepers and the support they offer for their children.

7th grade student Nelson Rodriguez enrolled in 2013 with few English skills, but has improved greatly and can speak in English with his teachers and classmates. "I like Covenant Keepers because teachers have helped me learn English and get better at math," says Rodriguez.

"When I was in El Salvador, I didn't know how to divide or multiply, and now I know because my teachers helped me."

Several families send multiple children to attend school at Covenant Keepers. Guadalupe Napoles chose CK for her oldest son, Jonathan Perez, in 2011, and enrolled her son Juan and daughter Citlalyk after seeing positive results. "I chose Covenant Keepers for my children because it is a very good school." Napoles likes that the teachers care about their students and want them to succeed.

"The teachers have high expectations and want students to have high expectations for themselves." When asked about her daughter, 6th grade student Citlalyk, Napoles said she wanted her in an environment where she can excel. "Citlalyk didn't always show interest in school, but now she is motivated and likes CK a lot." Her son Jonathan graduated from Covenant Keepers in 2014 and now attends eStem Public Charter School in downtown Little Rock.

"CK got me used to having a lot of work at once. My English teachers help me learn to write." Jonathan says CK gave him a preview of what high school would be like.

Nohemy Castillo is another satisfied parent, as her son, 8th grade student Michael Solorin, has attended CK since 2012. "Over the past few years, Michael has learned a lot at CK." She is also pleased with teacher communication. "Teachers tell me what's going on; if he's doing well or struggling, they let me know." When asked about the influx of Latino students, Castillo replied, "Latino families are supporting this school and are encouraging others to join."
